I think a lot about the ending of MLP: FIM. The moment Twilight learns the value in ponies outside of herself and her studies, the gears of fate begin to turn; Twilight was sent to Ponyville because her teacher was building the perfect portage to take her place as ruler of Equestria, and though Twilight had the raw magic potential of one, she lacked empathy. Through her friends she learned loyalty, laughter, generosity, honesty and kindness. Thanks to them Twilight became someone capable of finding the value in ponies different from her and works hard to find solutions that make everypony feel heard, she became friendship incarnate because of the love these friends had for eachother… The same friends she would be forced to see wilt and die as she was condemned to an eternal life and cicle of grief.

At the tail end of season 3, Twilight completes an ancient unfinished spell, sent to her by the Princess, to save her friends from forgetting who they are and what makes them fulfilled in life. At that moment, God herself descends to stake a pair of wings to her back, Celestia wrenches at her limbs and horn until they stretch out enough to hold all this new magic energy she hosts within her that her fragile mortal body can’t handle

There’s something particularly cruel about forcing an antisocial pony to create connections, find love and build community, only to return to her point of origin after she was turned into a monster who’s eternal life creates a barrier to her ability to connect Her goal wasn’t for Twilight to learn the magic of friendship to become a more empathetic ruler, the magic of friendship was the catalyst for Twilight to unlock her true raw power and become a God.
